NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
NOTICE is hereby given that a Special General Meeting of the Members of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC) is called for and will be held on the 3rd day of November 2016, at STIBC’s office (#400-1501 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6J 4Z6), at 5:00 p.m. PST, for the following purpose:
- To approve proposed changes to the Society’s Constitution and By-laws designed to comply with the new British Columbia Societies Act (which becomes effective on November 28, 2016), improve the code of ethics and add important missing sections.

- Opening and Welcome
- Special General Meeting Logistics:
- Review of proxies
- Confirmation of quorum
- Confirmation that due notice was given
- Presentation of the Proposed Changes to the Constitution and By-laws
- Vote on Adoption of the Constitution and By-laws changes
- Adjourn
Please RSVP by registering for the SGM event no later than Friday October 28, 2016.
The current Constitution, current By-laws and proposed new By-laws can be viewed for comparison by clicking on the relevant item. A background document has also been prepared regarding the new BC Societies Act and the proposed changes to STIBC’s Constitution (clicking HERE to view).
All comments (especially grammar, style and punctuation related) must be submitted to the Society before Friday October 28, 2016 as the SGM will focus primarily on the key changes.
The key decisions the membership needs to make are:
- Should the President be able to break a tie when there is a 50%-50% board vote?
- Should we increase the AGM/SGM quorum from 3 certified members to 5% of the founding and certified members (roughly 18 members)?
