Demand for translation continues to grow at the pace of international businesses, because global customers prefer to consume contents and services in their native language. As more people readily interface with translated contents, their expectation for quality translation is becoming more clear and specific. This trend is mirrored in the increased difficulty level and higher passing score requirement in translation trial, which prospective translators must pass in order to land on a translation job. In this presentation, the speaker will discuss the changes in the translation trial format seen in recent years. The session will be presented in Japanese.

Naoko Uchida is ATA-certified freelance Japanese translator with 19+ years experience and Master's degree in Translation and Interpretation. She has worked on a range of published and monetized contents for businesses, government agencies, and professional organizations. She also works as a third party evaluator for vendor translation tests and a screener for Japan Association of Translator's annual translation contest. Uchida currently teaches the Japanese Translation Workshop at Simon Fraser University.
